Accessibility statement

Scope

This accessibility statement applies to the BusinessCompanion website available at https://www.businesscompanion.info/.

This website is run by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade - a UK government department. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Whilst the website covers occasionally complex legal matters, we’ve tried to make the text simple to understand where this is possible but the legal, regulatory and technical nature of some of the subjects mean that specialist terminology is sometimes unavoidable.

How accessible this website is

We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some page assets such as DOCX and PDF documents lack accessibility features
  • some page content lacks accessible markup

Feedback and contact information

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’) in England, Scotland and Wales. If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard. The website is partially compliant and meets most requirements of the WCAG 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • Some complex data tables lack explicit association between header and data cells
  • Some data tables do not have an accessible name or description
  • Some iframes have absolute rather than relative widths
  • Some iframes lack a title
  • Some nested headings are in the incorrect order
  • Some page assets, such as DOCX and PDF files, lack accessibility features such as image ALT tags and nested headings

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will make every effort to ensure that new PDF and other documents we publish meet accessibility standards.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

The findings from our most recent accessibility audit are being considered by our content production team who will update this page with a remediation roadmap when it becomes available.

If in the meantime you require page content or assets in an alternate format, please contact us at production@tsi.org.uk with details of your request. We will consider your request and will respond within ten working days.
