From 24 July in England, it will be compulsory to wear a face covering in shops (it is already compulsory in Scotland, but not in Wales).
The UK Government's guidance on face coverings specifically states that "you are permitted to remove a face covering ... if asked to do so by shop staff ... for age identification purposes, including when buying age-restricted products such as alcohol".
